Anti-encroachment drive will continue regardless of political influence, says Talal

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry on Saturday said the capital's anti-encroachment campaign would continue regardless of political influence, questioning the legality of a security cabin and generator at the residence of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and terming the defence of encroachments ‘inappropriate’. The remarks came a day after the Capital Development Authority (CDA) issued an encroachment notice at Fazl's residence, identifying illegal constructions and encroachments on its land and directing their removal within 15 days. The notice came amid an escalating war of words between the government and Fazl, who had criticised what he described as the government's misuse of the Constitution. Federal ministers hit back, accusing the JUI-F chief of overlooking his own role in forming and toppling governments. PM criticizes PTI's 13-year rule in K-P, urges PML-N leadership to prioritize public welfare projects

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday criticised the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) 13-year rule in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), saying the province’s residents had suffered years of developmental neglect, and urged the provincial leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to prioritise short-term public welfare projects. Addressing the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) parliamentary party meeting at Parliament House in Islamabad, the prime minister said the people, police, armed forces, and political leadership had made unprecedented sacrifices in the war against terrorism in K-P. “Pakistan suffered enormous human and economic losses in the war against terrorism,” he said, recalling that the entire nation and state institutions had joined hands during former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's tenure to eliminate the menace. Two days ago, the Ministry of Interior told the National Assembly that security forces neutralised 2,410 terrorists...

Bilawal urges opposition to resume participation in committees, implores Achakzai to use 'authority' granted by Imran

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Thursday urged Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Mahmood Khan Achakzai to use the "authority" granted by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan to ensure that opposition lawmakers resume participation in key parliamentary committees, particularly for electoral reforms. Lawmakers from the PTI had last year in August quit the chairmanship of several National Assembly standing committees, implementing the directives of the PTI leadership. There is currently a near breakdown in communication and contact between the government and the opposition following the failure of earlier negotiations that led to the imposition of governor's rule and an emergency in PTI-dominated Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
