Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday termed the development of Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) a priority of the federal government, saying special attention was being paid to improving infrastructure, communications, energy, education, health and tourism, as well as increasing employment opportunities in the region. During a meeting with newly elected members of the G-B Assembly belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), who called on him in Islamabad, the prime minister said the local economy would be further strengthened by utilising the region's natural resources, tourist destinations and mineral reserves. The prime minister said elected representatives served as a direct source of awareness of public expectations, problems and priorities, adding that, regardless of political affiliation, the sole purpose of leadership must be public service and making people's lives easier.
