Child killed, four injured as under-construction wall collapses in Lahore

An eight-year-old child was killed, and at least four others were injured after the wall of an under-construction building collapsed in Lahore's Baghbanpura area on Thursday, according to Lahore Rescue 1122. An official statement issued by the department noted that the wall of the third floor of the under-construction building caved in, trapping several people beneath the debris while killing a minor. The rescue services responded immediately to the call for help received at 12:12pm and reached the site of the accident to recover the dead body of the child and rescue people hurt in the incident. Rescue 1122 Spokesperson Farooq Ahmed said the deceased child was identified as Abdullah, son of Amjad Butt. He added that the four wounded in the accident were taken to the Services Hospital Lahore for tertiary care by the rescue service. They were identified as 42-year-old Wasim, 38-year-old Shakeel, 35-year-old Nadeem and 32-year-old Faiz Ahmed. Speaking to The Express Tribune, the spokesperson said the rescue operation involved 25 rescue officials and seven vehicles. Detailing the incident, he said the wall of the under-construction building of a private school collapsed, trapping at least four people under the debris and killing a child immediately on impact. One person was trapped under the rubble and was retrieved by the emergency response team. Read More: Police book property owners, construction worker after roof collapse kills 14 children The incident came just two days after a roof collapse at a tuition centre in Lahore's Kahna area claimed the lives of 14 children. Police registered a criminal case against property owners and a construction worker.  Police named four suspects in the case: three brothers — Usman, Faizan and Rehan — who own the property, and Umair, a construction worker who was carrying out repairs to the building. The FIR stated that repair work was being carried out while children were attending classes inside the building. Construction material had allegedly been placed on the roof of the room being used as the tuition centre, even though the roof was already in a dilapidated condition.
