Sindh Minister for Culture and Tourism Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah has announced on Thursday that his department will arrange the burial of late actress Humaira Asghar Ali. This decision comes after discussions with the Additional IG Karachi over the matter of the actress's burial, reported Express News. Shah directed the culture director-general to act as the focal person for this matter. The minister said that if Humaira's family refuses to claim her body or arrange the funeral, the Sindh culture department will take responsibility as her legal heir. In an official letter sent to the DIG East, the minister underscored that Humaira was not without heirs and that the provincial culture department would oversee the funeral process, including the burial at a cemetery. Shah assured that the department’s priority is to ensure the deceased’s family agrees to receive her body. He also pledged that the culture department, with the cooperation of the police, would take all necessary steps to facilitate the burial. Her body was discovered when her landlord and police arrived to evict her for non-payment of rent. The deceased was found in an advanced state of decomposition after the authorities broke into her flat finding the door locked from the inside. Humaira’s father and brother were contacted by the police, but her father declined to travel to Karachi, citing estrangement from her two years ago. Investigators recovered two mobile phones from the scene, which have been sent for forensic analysis. They are also exploring the possibility of a third phone, as no communication has been traced beyond October 2024. No suspicious CCTV footage was found at the building. The investigation is ongoing.
