Opposition invites JI to join protest movement

A delegation of the opposition parties extended on Saturday a formal invitation to the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) to join a protest movement against the incumbent government.  The delegation was led by President Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Aain Mahmood Khan Achakzai and included PTI's former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser. The opposition alliance was recently formed. Achakzai, representing PkMAP, was elected in April as head of the alliance comprising the PTI, the SIC, the MWM, and the BNP-M.  "We are running a movement in the country for the supremacy of the Constitution. Our objective is not the change of faces in power." Achakzai said. Read Opposition alliance not against army: Achakzai Earlier this month, Achakzai urged the government to not use coercive tactics against any political party, including the PTI, warning that otherwise, the opposition will launch a massive movement. Criticising the political system, Achakzai said in this country turncoats were reaching the National Assembly and the Senate through fake elections. He also opposed the idea of giving extensions to civil and military officials after their retirement, describing it as one of the evils plaguing the country.
